Changpeng Zhao, co-founder of Binance, has urged Elon Musk to clamp down on automated accounts, also known as bots, that flood the X platform with spam and coordinated attacks.
In an X post on 9th March, Zhao said, “If someone uses Grok, ChatGPT, or DeepSeek to generate a tweet and copy and paste it here, fine, but API posting should be disabled.”
In another comment, he differentiated between AI agents and social media bots. CZ mentioned that AI agents can be helpful for real-life assistance in writing code and booking hotels. However, he jokingly stated that he had no interest in socializing with the AI agents.

Bot accounts are a documented problem on X. These bots post spam and are quite active in the crypto space. Such bot accounts are also commonly associated with scam messages that advertise phishing links, pump and dump coins, and wallet drainers.

According to Bloomberg, Elon Musk complained that Twitter was overrun with fake users while he was in the process of buying the platform. He mentioned that bots made up between 20% – 90% of the platform’s traffic. At that time, it seemed like he was trying to back out from acquiring the platform.
While Elon Musk has taken certain measures to curb bot activity on Twitter, the platform still struggles against automated accounts.
Recently, scammers have launched romance scams using bots. Such scams attempt to grab the attention of unsuspecting victims and pretend to be romantically interested in an effort to build up trust before pitching fake investment schemes.
CZ has complained about bots before
This is not the first time CZ has complained about botted accounts on X. Last year, he said that he wished X did a better job at blocking out fake accounts that impersonate him.

At that time, he wrote, “ Beware of fake ‘cz’ accounts out there. I am only using this @cz_binance X account. All other accounts with ‘cz_…’ are fake, imposters, or scammers.” He then asked users to report the fake accounts.
