A Bitcoin whale has donated 8.07 BTC to cover the $520,000 travel debt owed by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, as reported by CoinDesk.
According to an urgent appeal by Assange’s partner, Assange had to be flown home on a chartered flight as he is not allowed to fly on commercial airlines. The appeal stated Assange had a $520,000 flight cost obligation to the Australian government.

The BTC whale donation is the largest of the 8.2 BTC raised so far to fund the activity. Additionally, $376,000 in statutory donations have been provided, easily meeting the funding target.
Alistair Milne, CIO of Altana Digital Currency Fund, said in a June 26th tweet, “Assange will now arrive in Australia debt-free, largely thanks to the generosity of a Bitcoin whale.”
An anonymous donation of over 8 BTC (about $50,000) was received by Assange 10 hours ago. He has also received over £300,000 in statutory donations so far. Therefore, Assange will arrive in Australia debt-free, largely thanks to the generosity of a Bitcoin whale.
The support from the crypto community stems in part from Assange’s support in the early stages of Bitcoin. In 2011, WikiLeaks became one of the first organizations to accept Bitcoin.
Many in the crypto community view WikiLeaks’ acceptance of the groundbreaking digital currency as a milestone development that paved the way for BTC’s acceptance.
Other members of the crypto community also regard Assange as a hero for leaking US human rights violations.
Andrew Tate: A BTC whale?
Members of the crypto community are trying to find out who the anonymous benefactor is who generously donated to Assange. After the controversial social media figure Andrew Tate commented on the donation in a tweet with a gift box emoji, people began speculating that Andrew Tate was the secret benefactor behind the BTC transaction.
Crypto community members are urging him to “sign a message with the private key” to prove it.
