Elon Musk jokingly suggested that Janet Yellen may have fallen victim to a cryptocurrency giveaway scam, following reports that her computer was accessed during a data breach at the Treasury Department.
In the past month, the U.S. Treasury has disclosed that the country is facing a cyberattack allegedly carried out by Chinese operatives, raising concerns about cybersecurity in the United States. Recent reports indicate that this data breach also affected the systems of senior officials, including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, further exacerbating the severity of the situation.
However, despite the seriousness of the matter, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, did not miss the opportunity to use cryptocurrency as a way to poke fun, as it remains one of his favorite pastimes.
“Send me 1 BTC, I’ll send you 2 BTC”
In response to the report, Tesla CEO Elon Musk humorously remarked that in the purported Chinese-backed Treasury hack, the bad actors accessed Secretary Janet Yellen’s computer, suggesting that the economist may have been duped.
“Maybe she clicked on the ‘send me 1 BTC, I’ll send you 2 BTC’ email,” the billionaire wrote in a post on X on Friday, January 17, eliciting laughter from his followers.
