Despite not mentioning cryptocurrency during last night’s first debate of the 2024 US presidential elections, meme coins based on the candidates’ portraits had a strong reaction.
Last night, millions of Americans watched the first debate between Republican candidate Donald Trump and incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden.
The candidates’ stance on cryptocurrency has been a hot topic of debate in the digital asset community. While Trump has referred to himself as the “Crypto President,” Biden’s campaign has garnered attention for his perceived hostile stance towards the industry and close ties to Gary Gensler.
Despite the conversation surrounding cryptocurrency, neither Bitcoin nor cryptocurrencies were mentioned during last night’s debate.
However, two meme coins based on the similarities of the candidates had a dramatic response to the debate.
MAGA (Trump), a meme coin that recently experienced a crash due to rumors of Trump launching an official meme coin, saw a 33% surge from its 24-hour low of $7.22 to a high of $9.61 within hours of the broadcast. Meanwhile, Jeo Boden (Boden) plummeted 58% from its 24-hour high of $0.1715 to a low of $0.07204.
At the time of writing, BODEN had a market value of $0.07917, experiencing a 37% drop during the day. Since then, Trump has made adjustments and is currently valued at $7.24, experiencing a 19% decrease.
