Coinbase designated as official partner of the Canadian Football League and 111
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has been announced as the official partner of the Grey Cup, the championship game of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the highly anticipated coin toss event for the 111th edition, according to a report by Coin World News. As part of the agreement, Coinbase will sponsor the Grey Cup, which will take place in Vancouver in November.
Bringing cryptocurrencies closer to CFL fans
The goal of this partnership, according to the leading cryptocurrency exchange, is to increase the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Canada. It has been reported that approximately 5 million Canadians, or about 13% of the population, are involved in the cryptocurrency space. The partnership between the CFL and Coinbase marks the first formal entry of a major Canadian sports league into the world of cryptocurrencies.
Lucas Matheson, CEO of Coinbase Canada, commented on the partnership, saying, “The CFL is one of Canada’s most renowned sports leagues, and we are thrilled to be working with them. Our aim is to deepen the connection between Canadians and cryptocurrencies, providing them with tools and opportunities to participate in the digital economy and contribute to economic freedom across the country.”
Following the partnership, these entities invite CFL fans to engage in the crypto economy through promotional activities on Coinbase. As part of this collaboration, fans who make their first trade on the Coinbase app or website will receive $25 worth of Bitcoin.
Bitcoin rewards
Furthermore, fans who scan QR codes will have the chance to win Bitcoin prizes, regular season tickets, and even a grand prize of $50,000 worth of Bitcoin, with the opportunity to participate in an all-expenses-paid trip to the 112th edition of the Grey Cup in 2024.
The Grey Cup will see increased fan engagement, including a halftime show featuring the Jonas Brothers. With over 100 years of history, the Grey Cup is one of Canada’s most prominent annual events.
